About the Event

Come join us to celebrate the joy of art!

Our featured artist who features wonderful mixed media artwork, Susan Benarcik

"Outside of the studio, I immerse myself in nature, bearing witness to the effects that each season has on the natural world. I observe the minute changes and the ephemeral traces that plants, flowers, insects, and occasionally sea life make and leave behind. In the studio I capture the intricacies of these ephemeral moments – the tangled vines, gooey trails, swaying tassels, spores, prints, webs, and mazes in recollected hues of nature.

For as long as I can remember, observation and experimentation have been my métier. Because my parents owned their own creative industries, I have been continually and inescapably surrounded by skilled artisans, designers and their materials. It is in these special places where I developed my unique skills founded in experimentation.

I use watercolor and washes to capture the permutable nature of petals and sea creatures, with equal interest I create intricate collage by combining photographs and textural ephemera. A new series of abstract gouache paintings embody a deeply rooted aptitude for printmaking and surface design. This is a process by which I separate organic shapes of color with little concern for depth of field resulting in a print-like image.

It is not uncommon for two- dimensional ideas to grow outside of their confines, and transfigure into three-dimensional sculpture, using natural materials as components. Made of thoughtfully selected natural and found elements, these orchestrations are held together using techniques such as stitching, layering, weaving, folding, and entangling. These projects range in size, complexity, and dimension, reflecting different organic rhythms- similar to a tropism, wave, swarm, or spiral."

ALSO:  Out in our new event space we will have our friend Courtney from Jolt Vintage.  She will have lots of fun items for sale!
